The wisdom of the ancient Altai people
The cradle of the world, Altai, has always attracted tourists, travelers, adventurers and the latest romantics with its majestic nature, millennia-old antiquities, and rich history.
It was in Altai that the history of relations between Russia and the East began, it was through Altai that all trade caravans, including the silk and tea routes, passed, and it is from Altai that the path of the nomadic peoples of Russia begins. Now there are no nomads anymore, all local residents have long been sedentary, create families, grow crops and live their full lives, so little like ours.
The ancient inhabitants of the Altai land – the Altai people – seem to us incomprehensible and mysterious, as if they are keeping some age-old secret. The wisdom of the inhabitants of the steppes living in yurts is seen in everything: in raising children, in relation to nature, to eating and gratefully accepting all the hardships of life.
About attitude to the Earth
Altai people not only love the land on which they live, but even elevated it to a cult. According to their beliefs, Altai has a patron Uch-Sumer, whom they represent in the form of an old sage living on a sacred mountain. The old man guards not only every Altai, but also every tree and every stone. Everything that is on Altai land falls under the protection of the elder, so the locals never hunt for pleasure and do not kill in the name of profit.
To show their devotion to their patron, the locals tie colorful ribbons to the passes, always saying the words of requests or wishes for their loved ones. This beautiful ritual received the name “Kyira Buular”.
About relations with perfume
If everything that is in Altai land belongs to Uch-Sumer, then all living things have divine power. You must admit that it’s hard not to believe in the special purpose of Altai land when you see rivers with clear water, mountains rising to the skies, and forest landscapes that absorb all shades of green colors. Such natural beauty just could not appear just like that.
Altaians are sure that the forest is a place of a special ancient force that cures of all diseases. Local shamans, who have lived for enough years, know for sure which plant will help from what ailment. Ordinary tourist or mushroom picker is unaware that he is surrounded by real natural healers, and you only have to lend a hand so that all the secrets of healing are revealed to you.
About the role of women
Ancient Altai nationalities, incorporating the wisdom of generations, recognize and understand the important role of women. Each representative of the fair sex has a special role in the family. Since she is the continuer of life, they are treated as the only hope of the family. A woman is considered a vessel, which should be filled only with the best, most correct, that is on our earth. Residents of Altai know that they will always be helped, prompt and come to the rescue.
Altai people have no disputes about who is the main one in the family, male or female. It is hard to imagine, but the main thing in the yurt is the hearth, which should not go out. And the phrase “guardian of the hearth” for them is not just words. While the man is getting food, the woman is vigilantly watching that the coals in the fire do not go out. And the point is not only that then the fire in the yurt will not be easy to kindle, but that fire is also a spirit. As for other spirits, the spirit of fire is offered sacrifices in the form of pieces of meat or fat, from which the flame flames up even more.
The life of the ancient peoples of Altai almost entirely consists of faith, communication with nature and harmony of the soul. Completely different values of their life give rise to other goals and dreams, which urban residents do not even suspect. Their faith in the afterlife, their philosophical attitude towards death and the maneuvering between the worlds of the living and the dead becomes an opening for a simple layman who has never left a stuffy city.
